4.4 – RCL Draft Recap #4

RCL draft #4! The LM of this RCL is quite enthusiastic and made little write ups on everyone’s (!!!) team after the draft. I’ll go through my picks and then give you his synopsis.

failfish
Round: 1
(1) MIK DADDY – Mike Trout CF
(2) Team Gore – Andrew McCutchen CF
(3) Austin Slammers – Giancarlo Stanton RF
(4) Team Warren – Paul Goldschmidt 1B
(5) OldNavy – – Jose Abreu 1B
(6) Team Gunn – Clayton Kershaw SP
(7) Team Thompson – Carlos Gomez CF
(8) Team Ward – Miguel Cabrera 1B
(9) Team DeStefano – Adam Jones CF
** (10) Fail Fish – Anthony Rizzo 1B
(11) Team Murphy – Edwin Encarnacion 1B
(12) Freemantle Doctors – Jose Bautista RF

Pretty pumped to get Rizzo at #10. I remember him as this prospect coming up with a propensity for low AVG but projected power, cool to see him living up to expectations.
Round: 2
(13) Freemantle Doctors – Felix Hernandez SP
(14) Team Murphy – Robinson Cano 2B
** (15) Fail Fish – Yasiel Puig RF
(16) Team DeStefano – Ian Desmond SS
(17) Team Ward – Troy Tulowitzki SS
(18) Team Thompson – Jose Altuve 2B
(19) Team Gunn – Adrian Beltre 3B
(20) OldNavy – – Max Scherzer SP
(21) Team Warren – Freddie Freeman 1B
(22) Austin Slammers – Hanley Ramirez SS
(23) Team Gore – Michael Brantley LF
(24) MIK DADDY – Josh Donaldson 3B

Seriously was considering Tulo here, but went with Puig. No way was he going to get back to me and I wanted the chance to draft him.

Round: 3
(25) MIK DADDY – Chris Sale SP
(26) Team Gore – Stephen Strasburg SP
(27) Austin Slammers – Starling Marte LF
(28) Team Warren – Ryan Braun RF
(29) OldNavy – – Nolan Arenado 3B
(30) Team Gunn – Madison Bumgarner SP
(31) Team Thompson – Bryce Harper LF
(32) Team Ward – Buster Posey C
(33) Team DeStefano – Justin Upton LF
** (34) Fail Fish – Corey Kluber SP
(35) Team Murphy – George Springer RF
(36) Freemantle Doctors – Jacoby Ellsbury CF

Not too jazzed about any of the bats around here after Braun/Arenado/Harper were taken, so I went with the stud pitcher.

Round: 4
(37) Freemantle Doctors – David Price SP
(38) Team Murphy – Zack Greinke SP
** (39) Fail Fish – Carlos Gonzalez LF
(40) Team DeStefano – Evan Longoria 3B
(41) Team Ward – Anthony Rendon 2B
(42) Team Thompson – Jose Reyes SS
(43) Team Gunn – Corey Dickerson LF
(44) OldNavy – – Ian Kinsler 2B
(45) Team Warren – Johnny Cueto SP
(46) Austin Slammers – Albert Pujols 1B
(47) Team Gore – Jon Lester SP
(48) MIK DADDY – Cole Hamels SP

Hmm this pick is a little questionable. Im pretty doubtful CarGo will last a whole season, but when he’s healthy, I think he’s definitely worth the 4th round price. Rendon was a possibility too here, falling  down to the 4th round. At least he isnt out for the whole season and only ~3 weeks.

Round: 5
(49) MIK DADDY – Yoenis Cespedes LF
(50) Team Gore – Jordan Zimmermann SP
(51) Austin Slammers – Matt Kemp CF
(52) Team Warren – Victor Martinez DH
(53) OldNavy – – Kris Bryant 3B
(54) Team Gunn – Adrian Gonzalez 1B
(55) Team Thompson – Matt Harvey SP
(56) Team Ward – David Ortiz DH
(57) Team DeStefano – Chris Davis 1B
** (58) Fail Fish – Jason Heyward RF
(59) Team Murphy – Kyle Seager 3B
(60) Freemantle Doctors – Aroldis Chapman RP

Hnghhh really wanted to draft Harvey, but got scooped. Spring training reports say he looks amazing and if he truly is back, he could be close to a top5 SP. Bryant went wayyy early at #53, but it was done by an autodrafter who probably had his own rankings as this wouldnt be the first ultra-high upside player he would reach for in this draft. Im curious to see how Heyward does in STL where everyone seems to just up their game upon putting on the uniform.

Round: 6
(61) Freemantle Doctors – Craig Kimbrel RP
(62) Team Murphy – Christian Yelich LF
** (63) Fail Fish – Carlos Santana 3B
(64) Team DeStefano – Brian Dozier 2B
(65) Team Ward – Prince Fielder 1B
(66) Team Thompson – Joey Votto 1B
(67) Team Gunn – Billy Hamilton CF
(68) OldNavy – – Mookie Betts CF
(69) Team Warren – Nelson Cruz LF
(70) Austin Slammers – Dustin Pedroia 2B
(71) Team Gore – Jeff Samardzija SP
(72) MIK DADDY – Gerrit Cole SP

Was looking at Dozier with a bunch of other 3B left still, but pulled the trigger on Santana and his power potential.

Round: 7
(73) MIK DADDY – Kolten Wong 2B
(74) Team Gore – Greg Holland RP
(75) Austin Slammers – Jonathan Lucroy C
(76) Team Warren – Kole Calhoun RF
(77) OldNavy – – Joc Pederson LF
(78) Team Gunn – Jason Kipnis 2B
(79) Team Thompson – Todd Frazier 3B
(80) Team Ward – Sonny Gray SP
(81) Team DeStefano – Jake Arrieta SP
** (82) Fail Fish – Carlos Carrasco SP
(83) Team Murphy – Leonys Martin CF
(84) Freemantle Doctors – Julio Teheran SP

Yung Joc 😥 one of my absolute man-crushes this year. #77 is the highest I have ever seen him taken so it was a huge surprise to me. So far this auto-drafter has taken Bryant, Betts, Pederson…sense a pattern? I had Arrieta queued for this pick, but switched to Carrasco after Arrieta was taken. Both should be good sources of Ks, with Carrasco being a little more balanced.

Round: 8
(85) Freemantle Doctors – Adam Wainwright SP
(86) Team Murphy – Mark Melancon RP
** (87) Fail Fish – Masahiro Tanaka SP
(88) Team DeStefano – Jacob deGrom SP
(89) Team Ward – James Shields SP
(90) Team Thompson – Trevor Rosenthal RP
(91) Team Gunn – Chris Carter DH
(92) OldNavy – – Cody Allen RP
(93) Team Warren – Hunter Pence RF
(94) Austin Slammers – Dee Gordon 2B
(95) Team Gore – Gio Gonzalez SP
(96) MIK DADDY – Mark Trumbo 1B

Tanaka…homer pick? Maybe, but even in limited playing time last season, he was a top SP. Im gambling on his elbow here, but if he can stay healthy, I may have a steal.

Round: 9
(97) MIK DADDY – Alexei Ramirez SS
(98) Team Gore – Starlin Castro SS
(99) Austin Slammers – Michael Wacha SP
(100) Team Warren – Matt Holliday LF
(101) OldNavy – – Garrett Richards SP
(102) Team Gunn – Tyson Ross SP
(103) Team Thompson – Jorge Soler RF
(104) Team Ward – Jay Bruce RF
(105) Team DeStefano – Marcell Ozuna CF
** (106) Fail Fish – Manny Machado 3B
(107) Team Murphy – Devin Mesoraco C
(108) Freemantle Doctors – Matt Carpenter 3B

Round: 10
(109) Freemantle Doctors – Alex Gordon LF
(110) Team Murphy – Alex Wood SP
** (111) Fail Fish – David Wright 3B
(112) Team DeStefano – Pablo Sandoval 3B
(113) Team Ward – David Robertson RP
(114) Team Thompson – Hisashi Iwakuma SP
(115) Team Gunn – Kenley Jansen RP
(116) OldNavy – – Taijuan Walker SP
(117) Team Warren – Alex Cobb SP
(118) Austin Slammers – Steve Cishek RP
(119) Team Gore – Dellin Betances RP
(120) MIK DADDY – Gregory Polanco RF

I have explanations why I took back-to-back 3B here, but they arent very good…  I took Machado because I forgot I had drafted Santana…>_> and Wright seemed like too good a value at #111 to pass up. If they all do well, I may be able to use them as trade chips in deals for needs down the line. Taijuan Walker taken at #116 by hypebeast, “OldNavy-“. Most frustrating auto-drafter everrrr

Round: 11
(121) MIK DADDY – Jonathan Papelbon RP
(122) Team Gore – Homer Bailey SP
(123) Austin Slammers – Drew Storen RP
(124) Team Warren – Elvis Andrus SS
(125) OldNavy – – Brandon Moss 1B
(126) Team Gunn – Brett Gardner CF
(127) Team Thompson – Evan Gattis C
(128) Team Ward – Ryan Zimmerman 3B
(129) Team DeStefano – Chris Archer SP
** (130) Fail Fish – Xander Bogaerts 3B
(131) Team Murphy – Jimmy Rollins SS
(132) Freemantle Doctors – Matt Adams 1B

Xander…pls hold down that SS position for me!!!!

Round: 12
(133) Freemantle Doctors – Salvador Perez C
(134) Team Murphy – Brandon Belt 1B
** (135) Fail Fish – A.J. Pollock CF
(136) Team DeStefano – Lance Lynn SP
(137) Team Ward – Charlie Blackmon RF
(138) Team Thompson – Fernando Rodney RP
(139) Team Gunn – Huston Street RP
(140) OldNavy – – Danny Santana SS
(141) Team Warren – Doug Fister SP
(142) Austin Slammers – Francisco Liriano SP
(143) Team Gore – Yan Gomes C
(144) MIK DADDY – Yadier Molina C

Pretty lucky to get Pollack here. A more STL than HR guy, but I think he’ll contribute in both cats. No real STL specialists on my team, but combined I think we can have a decent showing in the cat.

Round: 13
(145) MIK DADDY – Glen Perkins RP
(146) Team Gore – Koji Uehara RP
(147) Austin Slammers – Mat Latos SP
(148) Team Warren – Daniel Murphy 2B
(149) OldNavy – – Avisail Garcia RF
(150) Team Gunn – Jayson Werth RF
(151) Team Thompson – Josh Harrison RF
(152) Team Ward – Alex Rios RF
(153) Team DeStefano – Zach Britton RP
** (154) Fail Fish – Neil Walker 2B
(155) Team Murphy – Jean Segura SS
(156) Freemantle Doctors – Andrew Cashner SP

Walker a little underrated in my opinion. Can give you cheap power from the 2B spot which is nice considering where he gets drafted.

Round: 14
(157) Freemantle Doctors – Chase Utley 2B
(158) Team Murphy – J.D. Martinez LF
** (159) Fail Fish – Yordano Ventura SP
(160) Team DeStefano – Howie Kendrick 2B
(161) Team Ward – Rusney Castillo CF
(162) Team Thompson – Anibal Sanchez SP
(163) Team Gunn – Lucas Duda 1B
(164) OldNavy – – Curtis Granderson RF
(165) Team Warren – Jered Weaver SP
(166) Austin Slammers – Pedro Alvarez 3B
(167) Team Gore – Melky Cabrera LF
(168) MIK DADDY – Ben Zobrist 2B

Round: 15
(169) MIK DADDY – Wil Myers RF
(170) Team Gore – Eric Hosmer 1B
(171) Austin Slammers – Michael Pineda SP
(172) Team Warren – Joaquin Benoit RP
(173) OldNavy – – Steve Pearce 1B
(174) Team Gunn – Ian Kennedy SP
(175) Team Thompson – Oswaldo Arcia RF
(176) Team Ward – Erick Aybar SS
(177) Team DeStefano – Adam LaRoche 1B
** (178) Fail Fish – Collin McHugh SP
(179) Team Murphy – Jose Quintana SP
(180) Freemantle Doctors – Justin Morneau 1B

Round: 16
(181) Freemantle Doctors – Brian McCann C
(182) Team Murphy – Jose Fernandez SP
** (183) Fail Fish – Luke Gregerson RP
(184) Team DeStefano – Andrew Miller RP
(185) Team Ward – Jake McGee RP
(186) Team Thompson – Francisco Rodriguez RP
(187) Team Gunn – Dallas Keuchel SP
(188) OldNavy – – Michael Cuddyer RF
(189) Team Warren – Aramis Ramirez 3B
(190) Austin Slammers – Hector Rondon RP
(191) Team Gore – Alcides Escobar SS
(192) MIK DADDY – Phil Hughes SP

Round: 17
(193) MIK DADDY – Ben Revere CF
(194) Team Gore – Russell Martin C
(195) Austin Slammers – Khris Davis LF
(196) Team Warren – Hyun-Jin Ryu SP
(197) OldNavy – – Michael Morse 1B
(198) Team Gunn – Shin-Soo Choo LF
(199) Team Thompson – Jake Odorizzi SP
(200) Team Ward – Sean Doolittle RP
(201) Team DeStefano – Lorenzo Cain CF
** (202) Fail Fish – Brett Cecil RP
(203) Team Murphy – Shelby Miller SP
(204) Freemantle Doctors – Martin Prado 3B

No hitters really caught my eye at this part of the draft so I filled out my SP and started to take some closers. Ventura and McHugh offer that high K upside and Gregerson and Cecil were closers who won their jobs recently.
Round: 18
(205) Freemantle Doctors – Jhonny Peralta SS
(206) Team Murphy – Drew Hutchison SP
** (207) Fail Fish – Rougned Odor 2B
(208) Team DeStefano – Wade Davis RP
(209) Team Ward – Aaron Sanchez SP
(210) Team Thompson – Mike Fiers SP
(211) Team Gunn – Joe Nathan RP
(212) OldNavy – – Mike Zunino C
(213) Team Warren – Matt Wieters C
(214) Austin Slammers – Steven Souza RF
(215) Team Gore – Joe Mauer 1B
(216) MIK DADDY – Tyler Clippard RP

Was trying to decide which 2B I wanted for my MI utility spot and was down to Odor vs Gennett. Turns out it didnt matter as you see shortly.

Round: 19
(217) MIK DADDY – Jedd Gyorko 2B
(218) Team Gore – Coco Crisp CF
(219) Austin Slammers – Mike Napoli 1B
(220) Team Warren – Scott Kazmir SP
(221) OldNavy – – Matt Shoemaker SP
(222) Team Gunn – Justin Verlander SP
(223) Team Thompson – Nathan Eovaldi SP
(224) Team Ward – Austin Jackson CF
(225) Team DeStefano – Neftali Feliz RP
** (226) Fail Fish – Drew Smyly SP
(227) Team Murphy – Marlon Byrd RF
(228) Freemantle Doctors – Ken Giles RP

Round: 20
(229) Freemantle Doctors – R.A. Dickey SP
(230) Team Murphy – Jesse Hahn SP
** (231) Fail Fish – Scooter Gennett 2B
(232) Team DeStefano – Adam Eaton CF
(233) Team Ward – Jenrry Mejia RP
(234) Team Thompson – Carl Crawford LF
(235) Team Gunn – Travis d’Arnaud C
(236) OldNavy – – Kyle Lohse SP
(237) Team Warren – Rick Porcello SP
(238) Austin Slammers – Carlos Beltran RF
(239) Team Gore – Nick Castellanos 3B
(240) MIK DADDY – Yasmani Grandal C

So my internet betrayed me and I disconnected from the draft in rd 20. Gennett was on the top of my queue and was drafted >_> I think I was trying to draft d’Arnaud there, but oh wells.

Round: 21
(241) MIK DADDY – Addison Reed RP
(242) Team Gore – Arismendy Alcantara 2B
(243) Austin Slammers – Brad Boxberger RP
(244) Team Warren – Danny Salazar SP
(245) OldNavy – – Joakim Soria RP
(246) Team Gunn – Andrelton Simmons SS
(247) Team Thompson – James Paxton SP
(248) Team Ward – Matt Cain SP
(249) Team DeStefano – Brandon McCarthy SP
** (250) Fail Fish – C.J. Cron 1B
(251) Team Murphy – Santiago Casilla RP
(252) Freemantle Doctors – Matt Garza SP

Sad to see Paxton taken before my pick. My team was feeling a little light on power so I took Cron.

Round: 22
(253) Freemantle Doctors – John Lackey SP
(254) Team Murphy – Derek Holland SP
** (255) Fail Fish – Edward Mujica RP
(256) Team DeStefano – Jason Hammel SP
(257) Team Ward – Chris Tillman SP
(258) Team Thompson – Brett Lawrie 3B
(259) Team Gunn – Asdrubal Cabrera SS
(260) OldNavy – – Daniel Norris RP
(261) Team Warren – Javier Baez SS
(262) Austin Slammers – Yasmany Tomas RF
(263) Team Gore – Wilin Rosario C
(264) MIK DADDY – Norichika Aoki RF

Mujica will probably just be filler for cheap saves until Uehara is back ,but in rd 22, I’ll take it.

Round: 23
(265) MIK DADDY – Yovani Gallardo SP
(266) Team Gore – Billy Butler DH
(267) Austin Slammers – Henderson Alvarez SP
(268) Team Warren – Wilson Ramos C
(269) OldNavy – – Marcus Semien 3B
(270) Team Gunn – CC Sabathia SP
(271) Team Thompson – Kennys Vargas DH
(272) Team Ward – Danny Duffy SP
(273) Team DeStefano – Tony Watson RP
** (274) Fail Fish – Alejandro De Aza LF
(275) Team Murphy – Torii Hunter RF
(276) Freemantle Doctors – Denard Span CF

Round: 24
(277) Freemantle Doctors – Mark Teixeira 1B
(278) Team Murphy – Clay Buchholz SP
** (279) Fail Fish – Chase Headley 3B
(280) Team DeStefano – Bobby Parnell RP
(281) Team Ward – Kevin Gausman SP
(282) Team Thompson – Desmond Jennings CF
(283) Team Gunn – Ryan Howard 1B
(284) OldNavy – – Mike Leake SP
(285) Team Warren – Jeurys Familia RP
(286) Austin Slammers – Carlos Martinez SP
(287) Team Gore – Josh Reddick RF
(288) MIK DADDY – Dalton Pompey CF

Will Da Aza be productive in BAL? I sure hope so… Was thinking about Pompey for STLs, but went with De Aza and Headley. Maybe one breaks out? With 3/3 bench spots dedicated to hitting, I might have been better served taking pitching like Gausman instead.

Round: 25
(289) MIK DADDY – Jake Peavy SP
(290) Team Gore – Mike Minor SP
(291) Austin Slammers – Rajai Davis LF
(292) Team Warren – Aaron Hill 2B
(293) OldNavy – – Luis Valbuena 3B
(294) Team Gunn – Ervin Santana SP
(295) Team Thompson – Carlos Rodon SP
(296) Team Ward – LaTroy Hawkins RP
(297) Team DeStefano – Hank Conger C
** (298) Fail Fish – Nick Hundley C
(299) Team Murphy – Eric Young Jr. LF
(300) Freemantle Doctors – Michael Bourn CF

Random C taken from the top of what was left of a rankings list. After missing on d’Arnaud, Grandal, Gattis, I didnt really care about C.

Here’s what our LM had to say about my team:

Fail Fish

Fail Fish’s batting also plays into some upside with a healthy amount of power and speed. Hundley, Bogaerts, Odor, Machado, Heyward, Pollack, Gennett, and Cron all have varying levels of risk/reward, but could really pay off. A nice amount of power based in Rizzo is backed by 20+ potential in Walker, Santana, CarGo and Puig. The rest of the lineup has enough middling power to ensure Fail Fish is competitive in the HR category. For speed, Pollack is projected to lead the team with a number of around 15 steal players in Heyward, Puig, Odor, and De Aza. Picking up cheap steals in the season may be in Fish’s benefit. Though lacking any .300 hitters, Fail Fish has a majority of hitters swinging .270 and up, and should get some points from that category alone.

Pitching looks very strong for Fail Fish. Kluber, Carrasco, and Tanaka serve as a three-headed monster any one of which could serve as another team’s #1 SP. Tanaka poses some risk due to his previous surgery, but, like Harvey, could prove to be a steal at his ADP. Throw into the mix McHugh, Ventura, and Smyly, and you’ve got a well-rounded and self-sufficient crew. Love the pick with Gregerson as a late round saves guy who should do better than his ADP would suggest while still helping out in other pitcher ratios. Cecil and Mujica complete the picture for saves although Mujica will probably only have the job for a short while. All in all, a team ready for the season.

I thought he was pretty spot on. Overall, I think it was one of my better RCL drafts. Cant wait for the season to begin!
